Clash between the Members of the Public Movement “Why?” and the Guard of Tbilisi City Hall

April 27, 2009

Members of the public movement “Why?” and the guard of the Tbilisi City Hall had a clash.

Movement members arrived near the City Hall building to hold a rally and tried to paste so-called stickers and to write slogans on the central entrance to the City Hall. The guard of the building did not allow them to do so and it resulted into a quarrel.

At the moment the incident has finished. The guard of the City Hall allowed the demonstrators to write slogans on the wall.

As for the aim of the rally, Natia Kobalia, a founder of the movement, stated they arrived at the City Hall to call upon the Mayor Gigi Ugulava to assist President Mikheil Saakashvili to resign.

“We were reported that Mikheil Saakashvili wants to resign but governmental officials from his closest circle do not allow him to. You know our slogan – “Everybody Deserves 5 with Minus”. We will hold similar activities everywhere. We call upon Merabishvili, Adeishvili and Ugulava to assist Saakashvili to resign. If Ugulava wants he can follow the president as well,” said Natia Kobalia.

The rally near the City Hall is still underway.
