Labor Party Reported that Armed Attack Was Attempted on Shalva Natelashvili

April 30, 2009

An armed attack was attempted on Shalva Natelashvili, chairman of the Labor Party of Georgia.

Interpressnews was informed by party members that on April 29, at 10:00 pm about twenty armed people with military uniforms made a siege round Natelashvili and his companions near the Monastery of St. Ambros Confessor at the Tbilisi Sea. Mr. Natelashvili often visits the Monastery since he was operated on his heart and undergoes medical procedures there.

After Shalva Natelashvili introduced himself to the attackers they charged their automatic guns and attempted to fire. They failed however because of a simultaneous action by the body guards, and he was with a large number of companions,” as was reported by the press-center of the Labor Party.

The Labor Party assesses the incident as a very impudent and insolent terrorist act committed by the government of Georgia that could have ended with devastating results for the country.
