Refugees from Shida Kartli Living in Telavi May be Left without Gas and Electricity

May 25, 2009

After the August war the refugees from Shida Kartli who are living in Telavi may be left without gas and electricity.

The refugees stated to the Human Rights Center that in spite of promises by the Ministry of Refugees to pay the gas and electricity bills, they did not pay it so far.

According to the refugees, several days ago employees of the gas distribution company Visoli demanded from them to fulfill their debts. Otherwise they would not provide them with gas. The Kakheti region coordinator of the Human Rights Center was told in the gas distribution company Visoli that the debts of the refugees amounted to 24 787 GEL.

The refugees may be left even without electricity. On the basis of the letter of the Ministry of Refugees, Kakheti Electricity Distribution will not provide the refugees with electricity from June 15 onwards.

After the August war the refugees living in Telavi blamed the Ministry of Refugees of not paying attention to them. According to them, the building where they are living is not well repaired because the walls are musty, water is leaking from the roof and floor is partially broken up.
