Davit Patsatsia Is on a Hunger Strike

June 17, 2009

                                                                                       Nona Salaghaia

The Human Rights Center was informed that Davit Patsatsia went on a hunger strike in prison; he was detained for his involvement in an incident which took place at the parliament building on June 12.
This information was provided by Irakli Kordzaia, a journalist, as he claims Patsatsia went on a hunger strike yesterday, on June 16.

“Unfortunately, the information has not been released to the public yet for some reason. It should be pointed out that Davit Patsatsia’s health was not in a good condition and now it has gotten much worse. There is a possibility that he won’t be able to endure the physical and physiological pressure carried out on prisoners by law enforcers. It should be noted that Patsatsia has poor sight and his being on a hunger strike is dangerous to his life,” said Irakli Kordzaia.

It should be mentioned that on June 12, in Mtskheta, the law enforcers detained not only Davit Patsatsia but Beno Gegechkori as well. They are accused of  involvement in the incident which took place at the Parliament building. The Court fined Beno Gegechkori with 400 GEL and as for Davit Patsatsia; he was given a 25-day prison sentence.
