The Georgian Young Lawyers Association Held a Demonstration about the International Day of the Tortured Victims.

June 26, 2009

The Georgian Youth Lawyers Association (GYLA) held a demonstration about the international day of the tortured victims at the MIA in Ortachala.

The representatives of the GYLA fenced the MIA with white tape and with an inscription on it – “Do not torture”.

According to Tamar Khidasheli, a chairman of the organization, they decided to hold demonstrations at the Police Department and at the MIA because they thought that there was placed the preliminary isolators where people were often tortured. According to her, the situation in prisons was equivalent of torture.

According to Khidasheli, the problem of torture still exists in Georgia which is confirmed by the recent facts including the dispersal of the demonstration at the Police Department on June 15.

Before going to the MIA the representatives of the GYLA held the same demonstration at the Tbilisi Main Police Department in Digomi.
