Public Defender Sent Materials on Kidnapped Activists of the Opposition Parties to Investigation Team

Public Defender of Georgia sent case materials about the oppression of the opposition party members to Irakli Kipshidze, head of police department in Old Tbilisi.

The case materials are about the kidnapping of the members of the Democratic Movement for the United Georgia Darejan Gujejiani and Tamar Naveriani.

Representatives of the Public Defender’s office state that Gujejiani and Naveriani had reported to them that at 3:00 pm on June 3, 2009 two strange men captured them close to the swimming-pool Laguna Vere and pushed them into the Jeep with darkened windows. Two more men were sitting in the car. “The car drove along the embankment; the kidnappers asked the women questions, insulted and threatened them. Tamar Naveriani fainted very often and could not answer their questions. However, the man sitting next to her was pulling her by hair to wake the fainted girl up. The man sitting next to the driver checked the information provided by the women in computer; the driver was holding a huge knife. The kidnappers asked the women where they had been during last 2-3 days; who had suggested them to join the party of Nino Burjanadze; how much they were paid for the membership, etc. the oppression, threatening, insulting and assaulting lasted 6 hours,” said representatives of the Public Defender’s office.

According to the statements of Naveriani and Gujejiani, the kidnappers seized mobile phones from them. Close to the village of Gachiani Naverian lost conscious and finally she came to herself with the help of Validol. The kidnappers were reporting everything to certain Vano on the phone. The women recalled the last conversation: “Come on Mr. Vano, we have almost done our job and why should we release them now? Ok, Mr. Vano, we will do everything what you order.”

Darejan Gujejiani and Tamar Naveriani received their mobile phones back and then they were left in the so-called Africa Settlement in Tbilisi after 6-hour imprisonment.

The investigation found Gujejiani and Naveriani victims and started criminal case on the fact.
