Jondi Baghaturia Doubts Demonstrations Will Be Prohibited

July 6, 2009

MP Jondi Bagaturia, leader of the Georgian Dasi, thinks demonstrations will be prohibited according to the bill on demonstrations. Today, at the conference he stated that this bill was a way from pseudo-democracy to authoritarianism because demonstrations had been banned only by Communists and Fascists before.

According to the bill, administrative imprisonment for hooliganism and disobedience to the police will increase from 30 to 90 days.

Besides that, the police can use non-lateral weapon. The demonstrators will be fined with 1 000 GEL and the organizers with 5 000 GEL if they breach the law.
