Journalist Blames Head of Dedoplistskaro District Social Agency for Insulting

July 6, 2009

Journalist Ilia Martkoplishvili, Dedoplistskaro district based journalist, stated that Levan Jamalashvili, head of district social agency insulted him and threatened with physical assault.

“Levan Jamalashvili threatened me with physical assault unless I stop writing articles about him and district governor. He insulted me as well,” said Martkoplishvili. He explained that officials of the district administration got irritated about the articles he had published in his blog where ordinary people complain about rude treatment and other insults from local officials.

Levan Jamalashvili categorically denies the accusations of the journalist. He said he had not seen Martkoplishvili for two weeks and had not threatened him.

Officials of the Dedoplistskaro district administration are particularly aggressive towards those journalists who are not controlled by the local authority.
