Parliamentary Minority Left Session Hall in Protest

July 16, 2009

Parliament minority left the second reading of draft amendments to the Law on Assembly and Manifestation in protest like the first one.

The discussion of the draft amendments was renewed at the special session of the parliament. After the ballot was supposed to start MP Jondo Baghatauria and Petre Mamradze made statement about leaving the session and quitted the hall.

After that, Giorgi Targamadze, leader of the parliament minority made a speech and said that not a single remark of the parliamentary opposition was envisaged in the draft amendments. So his team also left the hall.
Targamadze added that he cannot understand the question why he supports the non-parliamentary opposition by protesting the draft amendments.

He reminded the leader of parliament majority Petre Tsiskarishvili that in autumn any political party might remain without seats in the parliament and it is quite possible that this party can be the ruling party.

“The decision shall be made through consensus,” said Targamadze and left the hall. Before that alternative proposal of MP Jondi Baghaturia was discussed regarding the changes of Administrative Code. The MP requested reducing the administrative imprisonment from 30 to 15 days. However, the discussion procedure demonstrated that the parliamentary majority categorically opposed his proposal.
