Wife of Prisoner Threatens with Suicide

July 16, 2009

Prisoner Slava Bukavadze sewed up his mouth in protest and started hunger strike. Because of that, his wife threatens with suicide.

Natia Jashi, wife of Slava Bukavadze: “We cannot find out the health conditions of prisoner because we are poor to enter the prison or to hire an attorney. Shall I sell my children to get money? We urge the prosecutor to assist us to find justice or I will kill myself; I have already bought petrol to burn myself.”

Slava Bukavadze is Kurd by nationality; his brother Ruslan Bukavadze and friend Nika Khrushchov were convicted for robbery last year. Judge Roin Kakhidze at Batumi City Court sentenced them to seven-year-imprisonment and fined with 7 thousand GEL. The verdict was not changed by Marina Siradze, judge at the Kutaisi Appeal Court. Slava Bukavadze decided to go on hunger strike after that.
