Candidate for Public Defender Giorgi Tughushi Spoke About the Priorities of the Ombudsman’s Activities

Neither Giorgi Tughushi appreciates to discuss the candidates of the Public Defender in harry; however, he thinks there is something positive in this fact.

Giorgi Tughushi reported to journalists that it would be nice if new ombudsman will be able to work on urgent issues with the current ombudsman.

Giorgi Tughushi spoke about the priorities and said if he is Public Defender, he will have concrete program and will pay particular attention to the detention settings, IDPs and every field where human rights are breached. “There might be certain legislation worked out. Public Defender’s Office is actively involved in every problem,” said Tughushi.

Giorgi Tughushi’s candidature is being discussed at the joint session of the economic and education parliamentary committees.

The parliament will discuss the issue at the special session on Friday and will make decision too.

Public Defender Sozar Subari will have his term expired on September 16.

According to the law, the parliament elects the public defender no earlier than 60 days and no later than 30 days after the term of the public defender in office expires.
