The Public Defender of Georgia Gave a Recommendation to the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia

August 5, 2009

The Public Defender of Georgia studied the cases of the police confiscating the cars of members of various political parties.

“We assume based on the case study that the aim of the police officers was political reprisal. Therefore, they confiscated the property of those people unlawfully,” stated the office of Public Defender of Georgia.

The Public Defender of Georgia concluded that the police officers exceeded their power. He also sees indications of crime proscribed by Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The Public Defender sent the case materials and his recommendations to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office.
