The Public Movement “Defend Georgia” Filed an Appeal to the Board of Trustees

August 7, 2009

According to the appeal filed by Defend Georgia to the Board of Trustees of Georgian Public Broadcasting, one of the most important articles of the Code of Conduct of Public Broadcasting, which prescribes the responsibility of the TV Company toward the public, has not respected so far.

Members of the Public Movement hope that the reconstituted Board of Trustees of 1st Channel will consider the interests of the public and will elect the deserving candidate for Director -General of the Channel.

In substance, the appeal calls attention to the following: Public Movement expresses its concerns in the recent days about the latest  information according to which Giorgi Chanturia, former Deputy Director-General of the Public Broadcasting, is the favored candidate of the Government and his appointment to the post is already decided. The society might witness another farce. Giorgi Chanturia already was of the co-managers of the TV Channel I and is as untrustworthy for the society as the former director of the TV Channel. The Georgian people deserved to have the TV Channel, which is financed by the society itself,  respect the broadcasting’s principles i.e. to work for the society and collaborate with it.
