Detained Head of the Khobi District HQ for New Rights Has Been Released

August 18, 2009

Edisher Jobava, a head of the Khobi District HQ for the party “New Rights” has been released. The information was reported by Pikria Chikhradze, one of the leaders of the party.

According to her, yesterday in the evening a session was  unexpectedly was held at the Kutaisi Court and the result of the session was that Jobava was released. However, the investigation has not terminated yet.

I do hope that the case will be investigated thoroughly and that an innocent person will not be punished for his political views. I want to believe that the decision is the first positive result considering the background of recent events. I think the process is irreversible and that all the people who are detained illegally will  turn out to  bevictims of their political views”, said Pikria Chikhradze.

The case of Edisher Jobava was in the list which the Opposition represented to the Law Enforcment Bodies at the meeting held at the Ministry Of Internal Affairs.

According to Pikria Chikhradze, Edisher Jobava was detained on the road near Khobi District about half a month ago. Suddenly the police officers “found out” that he had a weapon and drugs with him and was under the influence of  narcotics. Of course it was calumny, farce and injustice”, stated Pikria Chikhradze.
