Georgian Police does not let Ossetians into Akhalgori District

August 25, 2009

Georgian police officers do not let the ethnic Ossetians, the citizens of Georgia to Akhalgori District.

Vladimir Pliev, the inhabitant of village of Tsitskanaatseri, Kvareli District stated that he tried to enter Akhalgori District for several times but the Georgian police officers did not allow him to cross the administrative border.

“I even took a notification from the Kvareli District Governor’s Office that I was going to visit my relatives in Akhalgori District but the Georgian police still refused to let me in Akhalgori. They told me that I could have been allowed to enter the district if any of my family members had lived there. I do not understand this restriction,” said Vladimir Pliev.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs does not comment on this.

Vladimir Pliev asks international organizations to help him to enter Akhalgori to see his relatives.
