Conservative Party: “Criminal Case Was Launched against Telavi District Governor”

September 2, 2009

Representatives of the Telavi office of the “New Rights” and Conservative Party stated that criminal prosecution was launched against Telavi district governor Vasil Davitashvili short time ago.

“Vasil Davitashvili was Telavi Mayor in 2002-2005. After the Rose Revolution criminal prosecution was launched against him. Kakheti department of the Constitutional Security Department within the MIA blamed Davitashvili for unreasonable expenditure of budget sums. I personally witnessed how Davitashvili was interrogated at the department. Finally, they agreed to cease criminal prosecution against him if he resigned. Davitashvili resigned but in spring of 2009 he was elected as Telavi district governor. How can society be guaranteed that the governor will not misappropriate the sums again?” asked Giorgi Dalakishvili from the Conservative Party.

Telavi district governor claims the accusations of the opposition parties were groundless. “It is false. I cannot understand where they heard this story. You should know that information is not always reliable and interesting,” said Davitashvili.
