Environmental Organizations Might Sue HeidelbergCement-Georgia

Based on the request of the population of Kaspi district, Green Party of Georgia and Ecological Law Center are planning to sue the German Company HeidelbergCement-Georgia.

Today, Gia Gachechiladze, chairperson of the Green Party said at the press-conference that new machines installed on the enterprise of the Company in Kaspi created horrible situation in the town. People cannot sleep within the distance of 12 kilometers from the enterprise.

“Influencing a person by noise is one of the methods of torture in the world. It results into a various sorts of psychological disease. Kaspi residents cannot isolate from the noise and it negatively impacts on their health,” said Gachechiladze.

He added that despite the request of the population and party the company does not plan to change anything. The company breaches the Law on Healthcare and sanitary norms estimated by the Ministry of Healthcare of Georgia. “We once more appeal to the board of the HeidelbergCement-Georgia to take measures to improve the situation within two weeks; otherwise we will sue their branch in Georgia as well as central office in Germany; we will request compensation of material damage and other sanctions,” said leader of the Green Party.

According to Gachechiladze 52 000 residents of the district suffer from this problem.
