Youth Are About To Hold Protest Rallies in front of the Ministry of Culture

Youth from Gurjaani district are about to hold protest rallies in front of the Ministry of Culture in near future to protect the Church of Godmother in the village of Gurjaani in Gurjaani district; the church was built in the VIII Century.

Organizers of the rally state that their protest aims to convince the Ministry of Culture that the church is very important monument for Georgian architecture and corresponding agencies shall pay attention to it immediately.

The church was closed several months ago. Although bricks are falling from the ceiling and threaten the people standing inside, the monks still continue religious services in it. The protectors of the cultural monument state that the church shall be immediately reconstructed. Otherwise, the monument of the VIII-IX centuries will destroy.

The church is the only two-dome church in Georgia and in the orthodox world.
