‘New Rightists’ Publish Special Statement Regarding the Release of Participants in Girgvliani’s Murder

September 7, 2009
‘New Rightists’ publish special statement in regard with the release of participants in Girgvliani’s murder case.

According to the statement, Girgvliani’s case has become symbol of confrontation between the government and civil society and murderers of the young man were not detained until strong protest movement emerged in the country.

‘Even then, partially filled list of participants of sadist murder were detained, to hide existence of high rank officials. They were sentenced to absolutely inadequately low punishment. According to the affirmed information, murderers are in especially good conditions in prisons. Last year, prison term was decreased to the murders by Amnesty Commission according to the resolution of Mikheil Saakashvili, secretly from the society. According to the information spread yesterday Saakashvili released the murders by using the instrument of early-term release,” the statement reads.

Members of the New Rights report that it happens on the background of wide-ranging campaign of dialogue launched by government with society.

‘The question is: Is this cynic challenge for the society or obligation to the murders in exchange of concealed information. Or both of them might have worked. There was not possibility of investigation of the case from the beginning. Case of murder of journalist Giorgi Ghonghadze has just been investigated in the Ukraine and high rank officials of those times are exposed,” the statement reads.

Members of the New Rights state that murderers of Girgvliani will be punished by all means as soon as the government changes in Georgia.

“It is the case of honor of the Georgian society; the most astonishing is that irresponsible prosecutors, judges, members of the pardon commission and president Saakashvili are added to the list of murderers and those who ordered the murder,” it was written in the statement of the New Rights.
