Nino Burjanadze – EU Mission Report Once More Proved that Georgia Has Irresponsible Government

October 1, 2009

Report of IIFFMCG once more proved that Georgia has irresponsible and incapable government that is threat to stability of the country, drawing the country to the deadlock, - leader of ‘Democratic Movement – United Georgia’ Nino Burjanadze stated at the press conference.

Burjanadze gave a special briefing about the Tagliavini Mission Report today.

“Even the government of Georgia cannot deny that the report makes extremely negative assessments about Georgia and the government of Georgia. Leaving these assessments without reaction can lead the country to disaster,” said Nino Burjanadze. She added that according to the report the reason for launching the five-day war was massive bombardment of Tskhinvali on the night of August 7-8 from Georgian side. The bombardment caused casualties both among civilians and Russian peacekeeping forces. Consequently, Russian regular army intervened on the Georgian territory.

“The government traditionally tried to conceal truth from citizens by using Georgian media sources. Canceling and distorting facts mentioned in the report is one more crime committed against the citizens of Georgia’, - Burjanadze stated.

The leader of the opposition party added that all international media sources expose Georgia as a launcher of the war based on the report and it threatens the future of our country seriously.

Burjanadze stated that Saakashvili’s irresponsible and criminal activities humiliated vivid interests of the country and supported Russia to realize its goals both in Georgia and in the region; Saakashvili has hindered the process of peaceful, political resolution of the conflict as well as integration in the NATO and EU for uncertain time.
