Conservative Party Demand Criminal Liability for the Guilty for August Tragedy

October 2, 2009

Conservative Party suggested setting up an independence commission which will study the criminal liability of people guilty in the tragedy of August, 2008.

The secretary general of the party Kakha Kukava stated at the press-conference today, that “if the Georgian government refuses to carry out the investigation, it will have inevitable results not only for the country, but for its statehood”. “Based on the report of the Tagliavini’s Mission, government of Georgia is also blamed in attacking Tskhinvali alongside Russia. We suggest to set up a commission which will investigate the August hostilities and impose criminal liability over the people who are guilty for the tragedy. We warn Georgian government, if they refuse to investigate this case, the suit will be sent to the Hague Court”, stated Kakha Kukava. Conservatives expressed their gratitude to the mission of Heidi Tagliavini for preparing impartial and unbiased report. They also noted that claimings of the Georgian Government as if several members of the mission were supporting Russia are not serious.

“The position of the government and its satellites ignoring the part of the report where Government of Georgia is blamed is astonishing and unserious the entire part of the conclusion, where Georgian government was blamed. Their position is also not serious that the famous diplomats, authors of the conclusion are considered as Russian espionages”, Zviad Dzidziguri, the head of the Party stated at the press-conference held today.
