About 5 000 Citizens of Georgia Are In Prisons Abroad

About 5 000 citizens of Georgia are in prisons of foreign countries. Paata Papuashvili, deputy head of the council department of the Foreign Ministry of Georgia informed the MPs at the session of the parliamentary committee for cooperating with our compatriots residing abroad. According to the Foreign Ministry most Georgian citizens are placed in the prisons of Ukraine, Turkey, Russia, Austria and Spain. Paata Papuashvili clarified that most Georgian prisoners in Russia are convicted for thievery. Georgians were mostly charged for that crime in other European countries too. As for Turkey, Georgian citizens are convicted for prostitution and trafficking.

News
