The Human Rights Center VS Lithuanian Company “Ahema Group”

October 22, 2009

Non-governmental organization Human Rights Center blames Lithuanian Company “Ahema Group”, owner of the JSC Kakheti Electricity Distribution Company, for extorting money from subscribers. The human rights organization protests the fact that subscribers have to pay electricity bills according to communal electricity meters.

“Because of hard life tens thousands of people do not use much electricity. People, who have to pay 5 GEL a month according to their individual electricity meters, pay two and three times more according to communal meters. The resolution of the Energy Regulatory Commission of Georgia, based on which the Kakheti Electricity Distribution Company, extorts money from the subscribers, also protects the rights of subscribers; however the Company does not comply with those requirements,” said the representatives of the Kakheti Office of the Human Rights Center.

The Human Rights Center provides the subscribers from Kakheti region with free legal assistance. They can call the Center on the following number: 8 253 2 22 11.

The Kakheti Electricity Distribution Company does not comment on the accusations of the Human Rights Center.
