Today Diplomats Will Learn Current Situation in Pankisi Valley

Today, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia will learn the current situation in Pankisi Valley together with Georgian experts and politicians.

Monitoring group set up by the initiative of the Christian Democrats will leave for the Valley in the morning. They will meet local population and check the information about training of terrorists in the valley spread by Russian governmental officials.

Members of the group are representatives of the Embassies of Hungary, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, China, France, Estonia, Czech Republic, the USA, Iran, as well as representatives of the European Commission, Council of Europe and EU. Today, correspondents of the BBC, The Washington Post will also observe the situation in the valley.

Together with Georgian and foreign journalists reporters of the Russian media-sources “Ria Novosti” and TV-Station “Mir” will arrive in the Pankisi Valley.

As for experts, the members of the monitoring group are experts from the Council of Defense and Security; exert of Caucasian issues Mamuka Areshidze and representatives of the NDI.

Monitoring group members will visit every place up to Khador Power Station where armed formations used to be in 2001-2002.

The monitoring group will visit the villages of Duisi and Jokolo too.
