Court Sentenced Tsotne Gamsakhurdia to Two-Months-Pretrial Detention

The court sentenced Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, the son of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, the first president of Georgia, to two-months-pretrial detention. Keti Bekauri, the attorney of the detainee, stated the court sentenced Gamsakhurdia to pretrial detention illegally and they will appeal against the decision within 48 hours.

Law enforcement officers detained Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, the son of Zviad Gamsakhurdia under accusation of wounding David Bajelidze on October 27, 2009. He is accused in premeditated murder and illegal purchase, storage and carriage of a gun.

Gamsakhurdia denied the mentioned accusation. It is second time that he is accused. Initially, according to the Article 315 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, he was accused of plotting against government and he was sentenced to suspended sentence. He was accused for plotting on November 7, 2007 after the video recordings were spread made during protest rallies; Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was blamed in alliance with Russian Federation.
