Workers Held Protest Rally and Demanded Their Salaries in Sighnaghi

November 12, 2009

Workers from Sighnaghi held protest rally. About 30 people, who worked on the rehabilitation of Sighnaghi town, have been demanding their salaries from the building company “Tbilisi” for 10 months already.

Malkhaz Khutsishvili, head of the Sighnaghi district organization of the “New Right” supported the protesters.

“Sighnaghi district governor promised workers to pay salaries in May, but deceived. People cannot buy food; they employed these people to work and now do not want to pay salaries. Building companies belong to the members of the “National Movement” and their founders are MPs, such as Mamuka Charkviani; if not so, the government is always so eager to raid businessman that they would have forced the companies to pay salaries to workers long before,” said Malkhaz Khutsishvili.
According to Goneli Kurashvili, director general of the building company “Tbilisi”, salary debts really exists, but it is not company’s responsibility to cover them.

“Other organizations, we hired for implementation of reconstruction activities, should pay debts to the workers,” said Kurashvili.
