Stealing of Peaches Ended with Imprisonment for a Father and a Son

November 13, 2009

Father and son Givi and Aleksandre Papalashvili signed plea-bargain with prosecutor’s office. According to the agreement, 26-year-old Aleksandre Papalashvili will serve 6-month-imprisonment and his father will spend 2 years in prison; the court did not impose bails on them.

Gurjaani district policemen arrested Givi and Aleksandre Papalashvili on August 18. They were charged for illegal restriction of Soso Kochlamazashvili’s freedom.

The story is the following: on August 15, the Papalashvilis caught Soso Kochlamazashvili in their garden when he was stealing peaches. Kochlamazashvili tried to escape them but the father and son forced him into the truck, bounded him to the chair and took him to the village. In the presence of villagers the Papalashvilis unbounded the detainee and made him write explanation  letter where Kochlamazashvili wrote he had really stolen peaches and he will compensate the damage to the family if the latter does not sue him at the court. Kochlamazashvili was released but two days later he appealed to the police.

Kochlamazashvili claims he has not stolen anything and the explanation letter was not written by him. The prosecutor’s office blamed the Papalashvilis in the attempt of extorting money from Kochlamazashvili and illegal restriction of his freedom.

Kakheti News Center was informed that unless the accused plead guilty the prosecutor’s office demanded 7-year-imprisonment for them.
