Victimized Family Requests Assistance

November 13, 2009

80 –years-old sick woman Eter Motskobili- Kaikatsishvili died as a result of fire in the family of Kaikatsishvilis. The old woman could not move and during fire she was alone at home.

One year has passed since the fire, but the family did not get any allowance. The funds for such purpose are not envisaged in Kobuleti district budget. Energo–pro-Georgia will agree to pay damages only after the court passes similar decision. Kaikacishvilis could not submit a suit to the court, because they did not have money to hire an attorney.

The victimized five-member-family lives in terrible conditions in the village of Shuagele of Kobuleti District. According to the family members, the reason of the fire was high voltage of electricity. The electric furniture damaged in the neighbors’ house at that time. Kobuleti district police investigated the case and concluded the fire was caused by poorly installed electricity system in the house. The victimized people do not agree with their conclusion.

The Kaikatsishvilis live in two rooms on the ground floor. The water leaks into their house when it rains. The house-lady stretched polyethylene bags on the roof to protect the room from rain. However it was not enough.

The family requests the municipality board to give materials for the reconstruction of the roof. Everybody is unemployed in the family. Their only income is the 125 GEL within the program for socially disabled people; they received first allowance time this month.
