Homeless Family with Five Children Was Left Without Allowance

November 16, 2009
Mother of five children living in the village of Vakiri in Sighnaghi district Esma Rusishvili blames Sighnaghi district agency for social subsidies for inattention. The house of Rusishvilis was burnt in 2004. Since then they have been sheltering at the house of other people. The entire property of the Rusishvilis is one TV-set and 3 iron beds where 7 people are sleeping. Despite unbearable poverty, the Agency for Social Subsidies seized allowance for the family.

“I have five children; they are 16, 14, 11, 7 and 4 years old. My husband and I do not work. Before the allowance was granted to us, we worked in the plots of other people to get money for food. Now, everybody has some problems and nobody hires us for the same work. We were hungry between allowances though we did not die of starvation. We divided 174 GEL so that to buy at least bread every day. Several days ago, social agent came and made me sign the document on seizing the allowance. He told me I would not get allowance any longer,” said Esma Rusishvili.

According to the Sighnaghi district agency for social subsidies, Esma Rusishvili’s family, whose authoritative representative was Nugzar Janashvili, lost allowance because the agent discovered new circumstance in their family.

The Kakheti News Center got in touch with Ekaterine Alavidze, spokesperson of the social agency, to find out the new circumstance in the family. “I do not make comment for your agency; I have already warned you about it. I do not like your work and do not call me again,” replied the spokesperson angrily.
