Keti Bekauri: Detention of Kartlos Garibashvili Is Provocation

December 8, 2009

Attorneys of Kartlos Garibashvili appealed against his 15-day imprisonment at the Appeal Court.

Lawyer Kartlos Garibashvili was stopped on Queen Tamar Avenue on 4 December while driving his car. Protocol on administrative offence was drawn up on him and he was accused in breaching Article 173 of Administrative Code of Georgia that is resistance to patrol police.

The attorneys of Kartlos Garibashvili think he was arbitrarily detained because the lawyer had not resisted police at the place of incident.

One of the attorneys of Garibashvili, Keti Bekauri, connects his detention with his political activities. “Kartlos Garibashvili published manifest of lawyers as a book. I connect his detention with this book and generally with his political activities. He did not even breach traffic rules. His detention was provocation”.

The date for the discussion of the appeal at the Appeal Court is not scheduled yet.
