Government Is Stingy To Assist Families of Soldiers Killed in the War

December 8, 2009

Parliamentary fraction “Christian-Democrats” think the legislative initiative of the government on the assistance to the families of the killed soldiers in the war for territorial integrity is discriminative and propose alternative project.

Magda Anikashvili from the Christian-Democrats said at the press-conference that restriction on disability should not exist in the project. Alternative project of the Christian-Democrats aims to remove similar restriction.

According to Magda Anikashvili, the project of the government contains unfair and discriminative norm. More precisely, only disabled spouses and children of the soldiers killed in the war will receive allowance from the state.

“Despite labor status, the fact of sacrificing cannot be changed. Whether a person is disabled or not, his/her family member died in the war for the territorial integrity of Georgia; s/he sacrificed his life to the homeland and if the state wants to honor such people, there should not be any restrictions. Guarantees for social security shall be equal for every family of the killed soldier,” said Anikashvili.

Besides that, Christian-Democrats have already prepared detailed calculation on additional expenses. More precisely, their alternative proposal requires additional 4 million GEL in the budget that shall be added at the expense of the Ministry of Defense.
