American Recepit- How Will Georgia Gain Abkhazia and South Ossetia Back

December 11, 2009

One of the reasons of disagreement between Washington and Moscow is still Georgia. Assistant Secretary of U.S State Philip Gordon stated this at the Council for International Relations when he was discussing relationship between the USA and Europe.

“The USA does not recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and calls upon other countries to do the same” said Gordon. Besides that, the Assistant Secretary of State considers the best way to resolve current problems is development of Georgia as a stable country and promises his assistance to the country.

Philip Gordon expressed his concern about seized OSCE mission in conflict regions. “We are sorry the OSCE mission could not continue its mission in de-facto South Ossetia and UN observer mission in Abkhazia. We still raise these questions at Geneva negotiation which will settle the situation in conflict regions. We also cooperate with Georgian authority to help them to understand our plans properly. We think, the problem will not be settled in near future and through military operations. There is only one real way to resolve this problem - Georgia should continue development as a stable, prosperous and attractive country, in order to attract Abkhazian and Ossetian people to be the part of Georgia. We assist Georgian authority to work in this direction.”
