Brussels Will Discuss Issue of Political Prisoners

On December 16, a dialogue will be held on human rights between Georgia and EU. Deputy foreign minister of Georgia Nino Kalandadze stated representatives of executive, legislative and judiciary authorities of Georgia will take part in the dialogue.

“This is second meeting where we will discuss the recommendations made during the previous meeting,” said Kalandadze. She added that Georgian delegation will be led by deputy foreign minister Aleksandre Nalbandov.

According to the non-parliamentary opposition, the issue of political prisoners in Georgia will also be discussed at the meeting in Brussels. Kakha Kukava, leader of the Conservative Party, stated about it.

According to Kukava, there are 50 political prisoners in Georgia and cases of several of them will be discussed at the Georgia-EU meeting in Brussels.

“We permanently collaborate with the EU and they have information about the political prisoners in Georgia. Representation of the EU will discuss human rights violations with the governmental officials from Georgia at the meeting tomorrow. They will speak about the existence of political prisoners in Georgia that was declared by international organizations,” said Kukava.
