Karasin and Hammarberg Spoke About the Release of Detainees by Georgian and Ossetian Sides

Grigor Karasin, the deputy foreign minister of Russian Federation and Thomas Hammarberg, High Commissionaire of Human Rights of the Council of Europe discussed the situation in Conflict Zone of Tskhinvali and they also discussed the release of detainees. According to the official website of the ministry of foreign affairs of Russian Federation, Karasin and Hammarberg met yesterday.

They discussed conflict-resolution issues in Tskhinvali and results of human rights commissionaire’s last visit in the District. They spoke about the activities of international organizations in the Caucasus.
Both sides mentioned that the humanitarian problems in the district should be resolved. Karasin and Hammarberg think that confidence should be restored between Georgian and Ossetian sides and detainees shall be released by both sides.

Thomas Hammarberg was in Tskhinvali on December 2.He took 5 Ossetian people to Tskhinvali who were detained by Georgian side and instead 2 Georgian juveniles were released by Ossetian side- Aleko Tsabadze and Giorgi Romelashvili. Tskinvali Regime promised to Hammarberg that they would release two more adults-Levan Khmiadashvili and Victor Buchukuri - within 10 days. However, the juveniles are still in prison.
