Two Candidates Will Fight For the Position of Chairperson of Bar Association

The first round of the election of new chairperson of the Bar Association was held on December 20. About 1200 lawyers attended the meeting. Keti Kvartskhava, Nugzar Birkaia, Davit Lanchava, Zaza Khatiashvili, Levan Jokhadze and Mamuka Mdinaradze were fighting for the position of chairperson of Bar Association.

Keti Kvartskhava and Zaza Khatiashvili received the majority of votes of lawyers. Besides that, Keti Kvartskhava received 558 votes and Zaza Khatiashvili 443. According to the law “on Advocacy” the second round must be held to find out the winner.

“Many violations were occurred on this election, for example 1194 lawyers were registered but 147 ballot-papers were annuled. We petitioned to the international and non-governmental organizations to monitor the elections” said the attorney Zaza Khatiashvili.

The date of the second round of elections is not scheduled yet.
