Famous Criminal Vato Kipiani and His Brother Konstantin Kipiani Assist Saakashvili’s Government

January 26, 2010

Mikheil Saakashvili declared Kipiani to be “boss” of Georgian criminals, murderer and killer several times. Kipiani was sentenced to 4-year-imprisonment under Article 236 of Criminal Code of Georgia for illegal possession of weapon.

Saakashvili’s government released Vato Kipiani earlier than his term when the issue was discussed by corresponding commission on August 25, 2008 after the August war.

Eka Surguladze, attorney of Kipiani, clarified that her client had 6 months of imprisonment left when he was released.

“I want to underline that Vakhtang Kipiani spent 3 years and 6 months in arbitrary detention. He did not plead guilty because his health conditions were grave; I have medical conclusion of the doctor of jail hospital which confirms that we have appealed to corresponding bodies and requested his early release. On August 25, 2008 he was released based on the commission decision,” said Surguladze.

Despite many attempts, Ministry of Penitentiary, Probation and Legal Aid avoided releasing public information about the release of Vato Kipiani. However, it is not first fact when journalists are completely ignored in the ministry of Khatuna Kalmakhelidze.

As for Vito Kipiani, he is in Turkey now for medical treatment as his attorney states.

According to unofficial information, during imprisonment Vato Kipiani assisted the government of Georgia in the release of Georgian hostages taken during Russian-Georgian war from prison. He negotiated with Russian General Borisov on the issue from prison. Recently, his name was mentioned during presidential elections in the Ukraine when Givi Targamadze, head of defense and security parliamentary committee, spoke with his brother Konstantin on the phone. They spoke about the problems of registering Georgian observers in Ukraine.

TV-Company “Kavkasia” released large TV-reportage about the scandal in the Ukraine in the program “Kviris Reportage”. Presenter of the program Nana Lezhava said that Konstantin Kipiani, living in Donetsk, runs business in Georgian and owns fast-food restaurants “Nikala” in Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi. It was underscored in the reportage that Konstantin Kipiani is friend and partner of famous criminals Lasha Shushanashvili and Shakro Kalashov.
