The Human Rights Center Blames Office for Children’s Care in Indifference

January 26, 2010

The Human Rights Center blames the Kvareli district office for Children’s Care of the Social Agency in indifference.

According to Kakheti region coordinator of the human rights organization Gela Mtivlishvili, in a village of Kvareli district oppressor husband does not allow his wife to see her children and threatens her with physical assault and death.

“The husband beat her wife so ruthlessly that she has her teeth and nose broken. The violator threatened his victim with death if she had reported about the fact. Consequently, the woman had to escape from the house through the window and sheltered her parents. A policeman learned about the domestic violence but hid the information because he did not inform the court about it. The victim applied to the Human Rights Center for help. The police launched investigation based on our suit and imposed criminal liability on the husband. Kvareli district court fined the detainee. The family had 6 children and 4 of them are under-age. Only three children live with the mother. Other three remain in the father’s house. One of those children who live with the father is one years old. 7 people live in the room of 7 sq. meters in extremely unbearable conditions,” said the representative of the human rights organization.

According to Gela Mtivlishvili, the center appealed to the Kvareli office of Social Agency for help; however, the department for children’s care at the agency has not got interested in the case yet.
