Several Opposition Parties Responded to the Initiative of the CEC Chairman

January 29, 2010

Several political parties have already responded to the initiative of the CEC to involve in the monitoring of election lists. According to the CEC, 9 political parties have already applied for the participation in the monitoring process. They are: “Entrepreneurs”, “New Rights”, ”Republic Party”, ”Kartuli Dasi”, ”Me Tviton”, “The Way of Georgia”, “Conservative Party”, “Movement for United Georgia” and “Liberty”.

“Christian Democrats” and “People’s Party” are going to take part in the monitoring of election lists; they will apply to the CEC on January 29.

The Labour Party and National Forum refused to take part in the process. They do not trust Zurab Kharatishvili.

“The movement for Just Georgia”, the political party of Zurab Noghaideli does not take part in monitoring as well. The team-members of the former prime minister are monitoring the lists independently and they carry out the “door-to door” monitoring throughout the country.

Non-governmental organizations prepared their own project on monitoring the lists, which they will submit to the CEC on January 29. The meeting of non-governmental organizations and the chairman of CEC is scheduled at 6:00 pm.

The deadline of applying to the CEC about monitoring is February 1. The elections lists will be checked from February 5 to March 15.

Zurab Kharatishvili, the chairman of the CEC, offered opposition parties to take part in monitoring of election lists on January 26.
