Beso Kurtanidze: the Problem of Vakho Komakhidze Is Related with the Fate of Three Ossetians Arrested by Georgia

February 11, 2010

According to Beso Kurtanidze, problem of Vakho Komakhidze is related with the fate of three Ossetians, who disappeared in October 2008.

Beso Kurtanidze, friend and colleague of journalist Vakho Komakhidze, stated about it in phone conversation with radio “Palitra”. According to him, he accompanied Vakho Komakhidze till Ergneti and took him to Tbilisi after his visit in Tskhinvali together with Paata Zakareishvili and Manana Mebuke.

“To my surprise, instead Criminal Security Department and Special Operative Department MP Gia Tortladze met Komakhidze together with the father of one of the kidnapped children in Ergneti village. While we were waiting for Vakho I talked with the father of the kidnapped child. I told him my friend Vakho Komakhidze would come from Tskhinvali and he would bring video recording of his son. We could show him the recording to find out what conditions his son was in Tskhinvali prison. But the man refused and went back to Tortladze,” said Kurtanidze.

According to Kurtanidze, Vakho Komakhidze secretly handed the cassettes to the father when he returned from Tskhinvali. Komakhidze was taken to the police station where he was interrogated about the people who he had met in Tskhinvali and etc.

“I brought the cassettes in Tbilisi. I do not know what was recorded on them. It was Vakho Komakhidze’s property. Vakho told me only one thing – he had recorded Kokoity. Though, I think the main reason for which Vakho has now problem is that the fate of three young Ossetians kidnapped by Georgians in October 2008 is unknown so far. Nobody knows anything about them yet. Vakho was in Tskhinvali and probably saw and learned more than we know. When this question was arisen, we were told that they had no idea about these three persons” said Kurtanidze.

He also commented on the reportage of TV-company “Real TV”, which discredited Vakho Komakhidze and pointed out that he had never watched such impurity and lie in his life before.

On February 9, it was reported that journalist Vakho Komakhidze requested political asylum to the government of Switzerland. The motive is threatening phone calls about his family members.
