Sokhumi Regime Allows Russian Citizens to Purchase Property in Abkhazia

February 22, 2010

Sokhumi Regime decided to make changes in their law according to which Russian citizens will be able to purchase land in Abkhazia. According to newspaper “Commersant”, Kristin Ozgan, the minister of economics of Sokhumi Regime, stated about it during his visit in Moscow together with Baghapsh, the leader of Sohkumi Regime.

According to him, the changes in the law will regulate the rights of Russian citizens, who will have same rights as Abkhazians to buy lands and buildings. Before now, Russian citizens registered their properties in Abkhazia on Abkhaz citizens, and it caused serious dispute from their right.

The newspaper supposes that inhabitants of Abkhazia will not like the new changes, because there are many problems to live in Abkhazia. Russian citizens have more money to buy houses. Draft amendments will be submitted to the parliament of Abkhazia for further discussion in near future.
