Lawyer Requests Criminal Liability for Prosecutor

February 24, 2010

Lawyer Tengiz Bezhashvili requests criminal liability for Sighnaghi district prosecutor Davit Dughashvili at court.

Tengiz Bezhashvili reported to the Kakheti News Centre that policemen of Sighnaghi district Levan Kharatishvili and Otar Topchishvili beat 23 year old Guram Bagalishvili on January 1, 2010. Investigation has already started on this case, but prosecutor’s office is going to stop criminal case. “Experts were forced to write a conclusion that Mgaloblishvili received minor injuries after beating, but he has three wounds on his head caused by hitting the gun. Prosecutor is indifferent towards case and protects policemen,” stated Tengiz Bezhashvili.

Sighnagi district Prosecutor’s Office did not make any comments.

Non-governmental organization Human Rights Centre also accuses Sighnaghi district Prosecutor’s Office for supporting the policemen who breached human rights.

According to the human rights organization policemen of Sighnaghi district abused their power many times and injured citizens by gun, on which Prosecutor’s Office does not react.

“Short time ago, deputy head of Sighnaghi police department Otar Dighmelashvili physically assaulted citizen Gela Kutibashvili who broke his 12 teeth and jaw, after which he arrested him for disobedience to police. Despite many complaints of Kutibashvili Dighmelashvili was promoted and transferred from regional department to Kakheti office of MIA. Prosecutor’s Office has all the evidences to arrest policemen Kharatishvili and Topchishvili, but did not pay attention to this incident,” said representatives of the Human Rights Centre.
