Natia Koberidze: “I Have Not Breached Journalistic Standard”

March 23, 2010

Newspaper “Batumelebi” interviewed anchor of the Special Reportage of the Imedi-TV Natia Koberidze about the simulated chronicle aired on March 13. In the interview, Koberidze said she did not participate in the preparation of the chronicle and consequently, she did not know whether there was subtitle on the telecast it was simulated or not. The journalist apologizes to the society for the output of the telecast.

Natia Koberidze: “The reportage had a very serious aim. I did not want to discredit this aim but it happened. The society was shocked by the reportage. I think it could shock the society even if it had warning subtitle on, but it could not cause panic. It aimed to shock people. Furthermore, I was not against the simulated threats. It turned out that this form, lacking the technical definition that it was imitation, caused similar reaction.”

Koberidze is member of Ethic Charter of Journalists. She said she will meet the Ethic Council and explain that she had not breached the journalistic standards in the part of the program she had prepared.

According to Natia Koberidze, she feels herself responsible and thinks that this incident shall be sooner or later settled.
