Germany Actively Participates in Resolving Georgian Conflicts

March 24, 2010

Germany actively interferes in resolving current conflicts of Georgia. Shota Malashkhia, president of Temporary Parliamentary Commission on Territorial Integrity Issues, said in an interview with news agency “Pirveli” that Germany decided to interfere in the implementation of Georgian state strategy towards its break-away regions by means of non-governmental funds among them BOSCH.

“Several weeks before I, Koba Subeliani, Paata Davitaia, Shida Kartli and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti district governors, the people who have juridical and physical contact with conflict visited Germany with official invitation from Foreign Affairs Ministry of Germany. We had a meeting in the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice, in Chancellery, funds, we also met experts among them Dieter Boden. These meetings prove that Germany has a strong interest and desire for regulating Georgian conflicts. Germany is assured that our plan is real and Abkhazians will undoubtedly like it if they make decisions independently”, stated Malashkhia, according whom Germany does not speak about concrete suggestion at the moment, but about how Georgia intends to resolve conflicts within the state strategy and the involvement of international society in the process.

According to him, by the end of June the plan of the implementation of all projects within state strategy will be written concretely: “implementation of the document will not be our obligation, we will show the world that we have this plan ….Afterwards we should resolve the problem together. It does not depend only on us. It does not matter who will be the mediator in implementing this plan”.

Representative of the German foundation BOSCH, a well-known diplomat both in Georgia and Russia Dieter Boden participated in the implementation of the state strategy. He worked on conflict resolution in Georgia early in 2000-2001 too.  According to Malashkhia, during his visit in Germany he met MP Paata Davitaia and the main topic of the meeting was the strategy worked out by Georgia in regard with the occupied territories.

It is not worth speaking on Boden plan, because it was accepted neither by Georgia nor Abkhazia. Besides, current reality is different in point of justice and involvement of international society. Despite that we have lost additional territories we have better legal status”, remarks Malashkhia who evaluates the involvement of BOSCH in the process as an important fact.
