March 29, 2010

Participants of the public demonstration “Protest against Georgian Prices on Fuel” speak about the oppression on them. According to the organizing group, several days ago, one of the organizers Giorgi Variashvili was attacked in Petritsi Street # 14 in Didi Dighomi district who reported about the incident today.

“When he was standing near his house in Petritsi Street # 14 in Didi Dighomi, somebody shot in his direction by the gun with silencer from the neighboring residential building. Giorgi Vardiashvili and people standing near the car survived. The car was damaged. Investigative group was called to the place,” the organizers of the Protest against Georgian Prices on Fuel wrote in their statement. They state the fuel maphia try to threaten their members.

“Apparently, in this business, people work based on maphia principles instead civilized business. Since the company owners could not justify unreasonable prices on fuel, they started to threaten us. We appeal to the president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and the minister of internal affairs Vano Merabishvili – to protect us from impudent maphia gangs. Otherwise, we all should admit that we live in undemocratic state where everything is governed by maphia groups and we will stop our peaceful and fair demonstration,” stated the organizers in their statement.
