Open Society Georgia Foundation Funded 10 NGOs

Open Society Georgia Foundation funded 10 non-governmental organizations for the promotion of fair self-governmental elections; the foundation allocated 177 552 USD for the purpose.

The organizations gathered in the office of the foundation and introduced their action plans and projects.

The projects mainly focus on the improvement of the pre-election environment and prevention of election violations; education of the voters and awareness raising; monitoring of the problematic polling stations.

Regarding the improvement of the pre-election environment, the projects aim to monitor pre-election and post election processes throughout Georgia; monitoring of the annual income of the political parties funded from the state budget, expenditure of the sums allocated for the parties to check election lists and the sums for the election campaign.

The education of voters and awareness raising projects aim to organize thematic debates on the elections. Election informational website will be opened which will be designed by the International Society of Fair Elections and Democracy and the web portal will work permanently.

Besides that, there are projects, which are designed for the post-election monitoring – more precisely filing complaints and calculation of votes. The projects will be implemented in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Samegrelo-Zemo, Svaneti, Kakheti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Adjara and Guria regions. The winning organizations are: the Human Rights Center, Young Lawyers Association, Transparency International – Georgia; Student-Youth Council, International Center of Civil Culture, Center of Economical and Political Research, International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy, “Law and Freedom Association ,” Youth Club “Dea” within the Association of Disabled Women and Children and public movement Multinational Georgia.

33 NGOs appealed to the foundation for the funding. Eight out of the ten organizations were selected through the competition, and the other two were selected without competition according to the project values.
