Signatures Collected in Support of Political Prisoners

April 14, 2010
Most part of the opposition parties has common idea about the political prisoners. Thus, they signed the memorandum which aims to support the political prisoners in Georgia. Opposition parties in Kvemo Kartli also participated in the collection of signatures.

“Various opposition parties throughout the region will cooperate in regard with political prisoners. Their number is 85. We plan some events to assist these people,” said representative of the People’s Party in Rustavi Mamuka Tabatadze.

The first activity was collection of signatures. Population confirms persecution of the people on political grounds by their signature on the list of political prisoners and special statement.

Generally, the society has little information about political prisoners in Georgia. The government-controlled media sources do not highlight this issue. Consequently, only international organizations and local NGOs discuss this problem.
