Sanakoev’s Administration Evaluated Jerapov’s Detention as Political Persecution

April 23, 2010
Interim administration of the former Autonomous Oblast of South Ossetia evaluated the detention of Teimuraz Jerapov, the minister of economics, and former official of the interim administration, as politically motivated detention. The press-center of the administration reported about it.

According to the press-center, Jerapov was detained when he was visiting his relatives in Java. “He lives in Ktuaisi and often visited his relatives in Java and Vladikavkaz. However, before Kokoity’s authority did not create any obstacles for Jerapov. Our former colleague faced problems after his relatives opposed Kokoity’s government. Thus, our administration states that Jerapov was arrested on political grounds.”

The administration clarified that the only accusation of the Tskhinvali government against Jerapov was his working for the administration and participation in the development of the regional infrastructure.

Teimuraz Jerapov was the minister of economics at the interim administration of the former Autonomous Oblast of South Ossetia in 2006-2008. He was dismissed as a result of personnel reduction after the Tskhinvali region was occupied and interim administration moved to Tbilisi.

Jerapov was detained by Ossetian militiamen near the village of Sinaguri in Java district on April 22.
