Prosecutor’s Office Announced Official Motive of the Detention of the Former High-Ranking Officials

The prosecutor’s office spread information about the reasons for the detention of the former officials of the Kakheti regional Trade-Enterprise Chamber. According to the Kakheti regional prosecutor’s office, the expert of the Kakheti regional trade-enterprise chamber Kakhi Gemazashvili, specialist Temur Makhatelashvili and head of the chamber Konstantine Makhatelashvili assisted people to export the illegally-manufactured wood with the support of expertise protocols.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the falsification was estimated after the Kakheti region investigative group within the investigation department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and representatives of the Kakheti regional prosecutor’s office arrested the track “Mani” with Turkish state numbers; the illegally-manufactured 27 cube meters of beech-trees was loaded on the track to export to Turkey.

According to the ministry of environment and natural resources, the resident of Akhmeta Zaza Gomelauri, Zviad and Oleg Otarashvili and Nugzar Bezhanov were arrested for the cutting of the trees which aims their illegal misappropriation, fabrication of tax and other official documents to legalize their illegal income.

The regional prosecutor’s office stated that the investigation is working to estimate identities of other people who participated in the crime.

When the leader of the parliamentary majority Petre Tsiskarishvili was representative of the president to Kakheti region, Kakhi Gemazashvili was deputy regional governor; Kote Makhatelashvili was the head of the Kakheti office of the state property management and privatization.

According to the Kakheti News Center, Gemazashvili intended to take part in the municipality elections on May 30, 2010 as a candidate. Initially, he was candidate of the opposition political party; however, later he was inserted on the list of the National Movement; several days later he was detained.
