Opposition Will Celebrate Protest Demonstrations On the Police Day

Opposition members will hold protest demonstration on May 6. The organizers of the demonstration Eka Beselia, Levan Gachechiladze, Nino Burjanadze and other opposition leaders stated about it.

Eka Beselia said, on May 6, at 10:00 am, they will gather near the underground station “Varketili” and start protests movement towards the new building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Second demonstration will be start at 5:00 pm on May 6 – it will be the movement from Saakadze square towards the building of the Tbilisi Police Main Department.

“On May 6, the MIA intends to celebrate Police Day. The St. George’s Day will become Police Day in Georgia. There is a police regime in the country. Hundreds of people are victims of the police violence; there are 60 political prisoners and ten thousands of people who are arbitrarily detained. On May 6 of 2009, the police was particularly cruel towards the people and the government intends to make the same day a Police Day. It shall cause our protest,” said Eka Beselia.

On May 6, the parade will be organized near the new building of the MIA. The rehearsal of the parade took place on May 2.
