Member of the National Party from Ozurgeti District Left the Party

May 4, 2010
On April 27, chairperson of the fraction of the United National Movement for the Reconstruction and Development of Georgia within the Ozurgeti district municipality board, Gela Burjanadze, left the party and the position of the chairperson.

One of the reasons for Burjanadze’s resignation was the list of candidates from the National Movement in the municipality elections.

“I do not want to be a member of the party and the chairperson of the fraction. I wonder, what were the criteria of the local leaders of the ruling party while selecting the candidates in Ozurgeti district? They did not agree on the candidates with us and made the lists secret from us. The people who are on the list now were against us. I do not agree with the lists of the district administration and the municipality board. They lack only Karlo Gujabidze and it will be the complete staff of the former Union of the Citizens (political party of Shevardnadze),” said Gela Burjanadze.

He said that he has written his resignation letter not because he wants to be on the list.
